By now, you have heard from me concerning the impact 468B-7872 regulations will have on our members and profession. Everyone who receives marketing fees, earnings credits, and interest from financial institutions will be hammered by 468 B. This year’s Mid-Year Conference is being held May 11-12, 2006 at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriot.  You are all aware of proposed Treasury regs 468B/7872.  Everyone who receives marketing fees, earnings credits, and interest from financial institutions will be clobbered by 468B.  We will explain in detail the impact this could have your business.  You will also receive the latest information on this situation and get up to the minute news on the FEA response.  Click here to view the full brochure for the event. There will also be a full reception and “Taste of Philadelphia” dinner on Thursday evening, May 11, to allow you a chance to spend more networking time with your fellow FEA members.

What is a tenants-in-common real estate investment?   Where did it come from?  Why haven’t I seen it before in my thirty-year career in commercial real estate?

Tenants-in-common real estate investments originated in Old England in the 1600’s when it became possible for the commoner to own land.  The quality farming acreage was too expensive for the former serfs to purchase so several joined together as “tenants-in-common” to purchase the tracts.  They would pool their money and purchase the property but since land ownership was so new to them, they wanted to own the land themselves and not be obligated to others… To read more, click here.

Chicago Deferred Exchange Corporation (CDEC) has expanded its national presence by opening a full-service office in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  CDEC maintains its corporate headquarters in Chicago and has opened satellite offices in San Diego, San Francisco, and New York since the company was incorporated in 1989.  The New England office, located at 40 Court Street in Plymouth, will be led by Daniel Feehan, Senior Vice President (a former senior vice president for J.P. Morgan Property Exchange Inc.).  Joining Feehan in the New England office are Jim Livesey, Vice President, Lisa Leary, Exchange Officer, and Kim Borsari, Marketing Officer.  Livesey most recently served as a vice president with Atlantic Exchange Company, LLC in Boston; Leary is a former transaction coordinator with J.P. Morgan Property Exchange Inc. in Rockland, Mass.; and Borsari most recently served as a vice president for Compass Exchange Advisors LLC in Kingston, Mass.  The CDEC New England team can be reached at (877) 811-1031.

MIDWEST REGIONAL MEETING

The Midwest Regional Meeting will be held this year on June 9, 2006 at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Chicago/Magnificent Mile. Regional Chair, Hugh Pollard is currently working on an agenda for the event.
